Anxiety is something millions of people struggle with everyday. I am no exception and have struggled with generalized anxiety for years. Through the years, I’ve picked up some ways to minimize or manage the anxiety I experience. Hopefully these tips can help you too!
Get Regular Exercise
When people used to tell me to “exercise! It’ll help your anxiety!”, I rolled my eyes. It didn’t seem like such a “easy” thing would fix my overwhelming & daily anxiety issues. Eventually, I decided to give it a try (more for my personal health than anxiety) and exercise has become my primary outlet not only for my health but for anxiety! When I feel extra anxious or stressed in any given week, I try to make extra time for a really good workout session. Working out releases natural endorphins that help relieve stress and anxiety and can seriously help your overall anxiety levels. It has made SUCH a difference for me. Missing a couple sessions over a week or two makes my anxiety skyrocket & I almost immediately know what the issue is & get back in the gym!
Practice Mindfulness
Try to practice mindfulness. Take a moment to take a deep breath, close your eyes, and think about where you are and how blessed you are. Think about the good things in life and how this particular problem causing you anxiety will help you in the long run.
Break the Problem Down
Whatever is making you anxious may just be because it feels overwhelming. Any large project will seem too large if you look at it all at once! Break down the problem into more manageable steps (1, 2, 3s) and start over with a new perspective on the first step.
Have A Morning Routine
I know that if I start the day too quickly and don’t take time to get ready and make some chai or iced coffee (my fav iced chai/coffee tumblr), I will feel yucky the rest of the day. I need that time in the morning to get ready, look, and FEEL my best. It makes me feel like I can tackle anything the rest of the day.
Take Care of Yourself
We’re all moving 100 miles a minute nowadays, and trying to manage 16 things at once. It’s no wonder we are plagued with anxiety now more than ever! Make sure to take time to care for YOU. Whether it’s first thing in the morning, the middle of the day, or right before bed, spend a little while taking care of yourself. Drink some water, eat some good food, exercise, take a bath, do your hair, take a nap, read a book, etc. Anything that settles your mind and helps you feel better!
