Our Backyard Garden

Spring has sprung here in Virginia, and with the stay at home orders in most states, more and more people are picking up their gardening tools and sinking their hands into the soil. Gardening is something I’ve always romanticized in my mind, and as of late, I’ve wanted a garden more than anything! I will be honest, though, I’ve not always had the greenest of thumbs. This year, I’m really striving to be more intentional with all my plants and gardens and make sure they get the attention they need.

Before

We took a plain, sunny spot in our backyard and transformed it into a little garden! We used raised garden beds, mulch, and river rock to transform the space. Eventually, we’d like to add flowers to the mulch bed on the left, and would love to add a trellis to the entry. For now, I’ll settle for my three garden beds!

After

We planted strawberries, watermelon, kale, zucchini, and squash. I used organic vegetable soil, some of our home compost soil, and vegetable fertilizer. I am newbie to planting fruits and veggies, so it will be interesting to see how it goes!

What are your gardens looking like this year??
